What we're doing
The start is at Point Howard, just past Seaview and on the way to Eastbourne. There is a bus stop there, a carpark and toilets. We'll meet in the large carpark on the seaside of the Point.

We start off with an easy, flat walk along Marine Drive until we get to Lowry Bay (5 mins). In Lowry Bay its an easy walk up Cheviot Road to the start of the bush track. The track goes uphill for about an hour through native bush, coming out at the top of the Wainuiomata Hill Road - jaw dropping views over Wellington Harbour from here!

Then we follow the Main Ridge Track to Mt Lowry trig, (up and down a bit) and then continuing along the ridge line track about an hour before dropping down to the Eastbourne Village and The Beach Cafe or the local pub for coffee/beer/wine/food.

We should be at the Village by about 1:30 - 2:30pm. People have the option of either jumping on a bus or walking back to their cars at Point Howard.


BUS: Take the 83 bus that leaves Courtney Place. This bus goes through Petone and Lower Hutt Queensgate before arriving at Point Howard stop - press the exit bell as you go past the Seaview Marina.

CAR: It takes about 20 minutes to drive to the start point from Wgtn City. There's a big car park at Pt Howard.


1) BUS BACK FROM EASTBOURNE: This is only a 5 minute bus trip. Buses go at 2:25, 2:45, 3:25, 3:45, 4:45. (you can stay on the bus and go all the way back to Wgtn City if you like - about a 45 minute trip)

2) CAR SHUTTLE: Get a friend to leave their car close to the Eastbourne shops - so you can drive back to the start point

3) WALK: It'll take you about 30 minutes, flat walk along the waterfront to get back to the start.

PLEASE NOTE: The Ridgeline track is not used much so it's a bit of an adventure! It can be slippery and there are often fallen trees to climb over or under, plus the occasional bum-slide if you don't watch where you're going!

What To Bring: Some snacks and plenty to drink. Sturdy footwear and layers of clothing which you can peel off as you get hot and put on again as you cool.
