We’re delighted to announce a new event format for the London Content Strategy Meetup: an interactive debate about whether our work can help change an organisation’s culture.
How can content strategy and user experience help us to change organisational culture? What will happen if we stick to what we know and wait for organisations to adapt to their new reality? What cultural challenges do we face, and how do other practitioners approach cultural issues?
We’ll hear short talks from two inspirational speakers, take part in an interactive panel, and then break into small groups to work together on solving a problem, culminating in an “elevator pitch” which we’ll share with the group. Get involved in debating a challenge we all face in our work, work with people you haven't met before, and collaborate on solutions. It’ll be great fun and we’ll all learn lots.

Joe Leech: Using UX to Change Company Culture
A recovering neuroscientist via a spell as a primary school teacher and a MSc in Human Computer Interaction, Joe embarked on a UX career 9 years ago. As User Experience Director at cxpartners (http://www.cxpartners.co.uk/who-we-are/joe-leech/), Joe leads a team of UX consultants. He specialises in designing every aspect of the user experience from initial research to developing online strategies to producing wireframes & managing a design team. He’s worked with clients like eBay, Marriott, Virgin, The Train Line and Disney.
Nicola O'Connor: Can content strategy save lives? The case for user-centred, integrated digital communications at Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funds over half the UK’s cancer research: that’s more than 4000 scientists, doctors, and nurses fighting cancer on all fronts. CRUK provides life-changing information to anyone affected by cancer and runs awareness initiatives to detect cancer early and to reduce risk. And their campaigning work keeps cancer at the top of the political agenda. All of this is funded directly by supporters—CRUK has no government funding.
CRUK’s digital presence needs to serve its mission: to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Therefore it needs to create better engagement with the brand, better user experience, and increased income. Nicola will share a case study of how CRUK is beginning to break down content silos and change the way they work to deliver a truly user-centred cancer information service that supports all of their core audiences and encourages their support.

Interactive panel and small group discussions
After the talks, we’ll participate in an interactive fish-bowl panel, where anyone can take part. Get involved in debating the issues raised by our speakers, ask questions, and share your ideas with the group.
Next, we’ll split into small groups to discuss the presentations and share our own ideas. Each group will have a facilitator to guide the discussion and introduce a scenario for the group to work on together, culminating in an elevator pitch. You'll have a chance to discuss your ideas with the speakers before we report back to the group and share what we’ve learned.
