Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a great holiday and new year!  I just wanted to send a quick email with a few announcements.

  • New Board Members
  • New Location for Monthly Meetings
  • Upcoming Events

New Board Members

Thanks to everyone who voted for the 2 open board member positions the week before Christmas.  I would like to congratulate Tom Harrison and Dave Marko, who you all selected for those positions.  Welcome to the board Tom and Dave!

New Location for Monthly Meetings

Our contract for use of the meeting room in the building at Keystone Crossing ended and we were also outgrowing that room.  Thankfully, Interactive Intelligence has agreed to let us use one of their rooms free of charge!  So, going forward, our monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month will be held at Interactive Intelligence.  The address and directions will be posted with each meetup.  It actually works best to park in the Fusion Alliance lot and take the short walking path to the back entrance of the Interactive Intelligence building as that is right outside our meeting room.  I will post my phone number in the details of the meetup in case anyone has troubles finding it.

Upcoming Events

  • Monthly Meeting - Wednesday January 9th
David Hussman will be the Featured Speaker at our meeting next Wednesday.  David is a GREAT speaker and we are very lucky to have him.  I've heard him speak at several conferences and he never disappoints.  He has done a lot of work with Jeff Patton around the use of personas and story maps on agile teams, so all you product owners out there, this is definitely one you don't want to miss!
  • Weekend CSM Training - Saturday, January 19th, Sunday, January 20th
There are still seats available in the weekend CSM class that Tom Mellor and myself will be holding in a couple weeks.  If you've been wanting to get your CSM but couldn't find the time, the weekend course is a great opportunity.
  • Agile Project Management: Do You Have What it Takes - Thursday, March 7th
This is a workshop that Johanna Rothman is holding the day before the AgileIndy Conference.   If you’ve been managing projects for a while, you may be perplexed by an agile project or your role in it. If you’re accustomed to predicting the schedule, assigning the work, and tracking a Gantt chart, you may be puzzled by how to use empirical data to understand the project’s progress, having people self-assign work, and by your new role as coach and facilitator.  Do you have what it takes?  Come find out with Johanna!
  • AgileIndy Conference - Friday, March 8th
Our one day conference is quickly approaching!  We are bringing in some really good presenters so you don't want to miss it.  There will be topics on leadership, adoption, technical practices, and more.  And of course, great networking opportunities.  Check out the bios of speakers on the website!  The early bird price of $99 will end at the beginning of February!  Don't miss out.
  • Leading and Coaching People to Take Responsibility and Demonstrate Ownership -  Thursday, April 18th
After his keynote talk at the AgileIndy Conference, Christopher Avery will be returning to Indy with his one-day workshop from his Leadership Gift series.  You will learn how to  inspire those around you to demonstrate far greater ownership behavior as individuals, and in teams and enterprises. You will add more value as your team or clients take ownership; practice self-leadership; and learn, correct, and improve more easily, directly, and quickly.  This is not just for software teams, so please help spread the word to other leaders in your companies!  Christopher is currently running a promotion offering a 40% discount!  Sign-up using the link above.

Those are all of the confirmed events that I know of, but I have also heard rumors of other training and events being planned around the time of the conference, so keep your eye out for more opportunities.  Please take advantage of these great opportunities and as always, let me know if you have any questions.
