Global Day of Code Retreat 2016

Join us for the Winnipeg chapter of the Global Day of Coderetreat!

What is a Coderetreat?

• Coderetreat is a day-long, intensive practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of 'getting things done', the coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of skill improvement. Practicing the basic principles of modular and object-oriented design, developers can improve their ability to write code that minimizes the cost of change over time.

This is not a class where we teach pair programming or TDD but it most definitely is a rich opportunity to experiment with and practice these techniques.

We will start early on Saturday, October 22nd and go until about 4:30 or 5pm and food will be provided.  It may sound like a long day but every year the day goes surprisingly fast.

Hope to see you there!

I received a very warm welcome upon entering this meeting, even though I was late !
The atmosphere was very open , friendly and courteous.
David, the organizer, did a wonderful job of guiding us.
And, the people I paired with were a pure pleasure to focus on an assignment with..
It was just an all around nice experience !
And, oh yes, though I have read about and wondered what it would be like, this meeting has certainly provided me with a 'first' experience of pair programming. And I must say it is much more pleasurable than I had imagined. Whether in the drivers seat typing away at some code, or asking questions and offering suggestive guidence as the navigator.. the development and focus on the project becomes like a story unfolding before your very eyes!

    Once again,
    Thank you

It was very good. I learned a lot about Driver/Navigator and my own tendencies with pair programming.

Code and have Coffee was mentioned as a place to talk and share outside of work.

Search for other meet-ups. Some groups are elsewhere on the Internet such as
