What we're about

Private Group

ALBUQUERQUE WIDOWS & WIDOWERS, (AWW), was started in April,2012, with no age restrictions, but only for widowed persons. (perhaps members in their 50's, 60's, and 70's will predominate.)

AWW is NOT for those whose spouse died AFTER they broke up, nor is it for those who have re-married or are in a committed relationship.

But otherwise, it does not matter if you were widowed less than a year ago or over 20 years ago, we are all "in the same boat" and are all equally welcome here. Also, if yours was a "common law" marriage, you are just as widowed and just as welcome here as anyone.

AWW is neither a grief counseling group nor a dating site, but a group to make friends, to get out more, and to go on with your life. Dating is not at all discouraged, but is considered to be your own business.

If you find attending a flat-out singles group to be intimidating, but are ready to move beyond a grief support group, then perhaps AWW will help you to build a new social life, and enjoy going out with others who understand what you have been through. Our longer-widowed members will enjoy talking to the more newly-widowed about the journey they are traveling.

Some ideas for activities include: a house party or yard party with a bbq or potluck, going out for a coffee, brunch, lunch, or dinner, a walk or a dog walk, cards or boardgames, a home movie, matinee movie or any other social activity.

AWW will be private so that your personal information, your photo(s), and our event locations will not be seen by non members.

There are no costs involved in belonging to this group, other than your restaurant tabs, movie, concert, or theater tickets or the like, and there is no obligation to remain in AWW if you find that this group is not for you.

Members are encouraged to suggest events and to help organize them. So if you are willing to help with a get-together, then please suggest it. The group's survival is going to totally depend on volunteers. Hosting an event is not a requirement, but I hope that members will consider hosting one event per year, even if it's just a movie that you are going to anyway. Simply post it here to invite your AWW friends to meet you at the door.

If this is your first meetup group, you will want to read Meetup's "Terms of Service" (scroll way down to the bottom in the grey area.)

There will be a couple of group policies:
1. AWW will not share it's activities with "non-widowed-persons" groups (a practice sometimes referred to as the "cross-posting" of events.
2. A member who makes unwanted advances toward other members will be removed upon receiving complaints, as will anyone who the organizer feels is not compatible with the other members or the group's focus.

If you would like to join AWW, please click on "Join Us" (in the green tab bar above.) You do NOT need to join Facebook. If this is your first meetup group, you only need to give your first name (or a nick name) and your last initial when Meetup asks for your "real name" (your entire last name is not necessary.) If you are already a member of meetup, simply log in to Meetup and join this group.
