Let's go for a winter hike across the Potomac River to explore Georgetown!
From the Rosslyn Metro Station (Moore St side) we'll walk north along Moore St, cut over east a block to Lynn St, and continue north to cross the Potomac on Key Bridge to Francis Scott Key Memorial Park. From the park we’ll descend the steps to the C&O Canal towpath, hike west to Foundry Branch and turn north, through the tunnel under Canal Road and continuing north through Foundry Branch and Archbold Parks. In Archbold Park we'll turn east and hike through Whitehaven Parkway and Holy Rood Cemetery to Wisconsin Avenue and 34th Street NW, where we'll stop for a short mid-hike break.
After the break we’ll continue east along S and R Streets NW to 30th St NW where, after a peek at Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, we’ll turn south along 30th St NW and hike down to M Street in Georgetown, where we’ll turn left and walk a half-block east past the Old Stone House. From there we’ll head south on Thomas Jefferson St NW to the Potomac, turn right, and follow the shoreline upstream through Georgetown Waterfront Park, ascend the steps into Francis Scott Key Memorial Park, and return to Rosslyn across Key Bridge.
The hike is about 6.5 miles of smiles, easy to moderate difficulty, and should take a little over 2 hours at a moderate pace, plus time for a mid-hike break. The route is a combination of paved sidewalks and pebble/dirt paths, with steps here and there.
