• ADA Anniversary Celebration
The NC Council on Developmental Disabilities is having an Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary celebration on Sunday, July 23rd from 10:00-noon at the Sassafras All Children’s Playground. My family knows the organizer and is planning to attend. Wondering if this might be of interest to the group?

  • Play date for Families at Shelley Lake Playground!
We invite all families who have a child with special needs (and all siblings) to our next Meet UP at Shelley Lake Playground in Raleigh. Parents can enjoy meeting one another and kids can enjoy the large playground. The playground has a wooden fence but does not have a gate. Parents are required to stay and supervise their children. We will provide water bottles for all attendees. Please note that there is a lake about 1/4 mile from the playground, but it is not visible from the playground. We look forward to seeing you on September 24 at 10:30 AM!

  • Fall Conference for Parents of Students with Special Needs
This is not an official Meet Up. In an effort to help our members, we occasionally post about activities that might be useful to you and your families. The Special Education Advisory Council, which represents exceptional children in Wake County schools, is offering a conference on Saturday, September 24. The title of the conference is "Solutions for Supporting Your Unique Student." Information will be shared about IEPs and other tools for success. The conference runs from 9 am to 1 pm at a location in Cary. No childcare will be available. For more details and to register online, go to www.wakeseac.org.

The playground is fenced in. There is also a path down to the lake for those who wish to take a walk. Please RSVP, and feel free to invite other families of children with special needs. • Family Fun Night at Marbles!
Wanted to ensure everyone is aware of a special evening for our families at Marbles, the children's museum in downtown Raleigh. On Tuesday, June 14th, beginning at 5:30, the museum will close to regular visitors and will welcome special-needs children and their families. This allows our kids to explore Marbles in a calmer, quieter environment. (The admission is FREE! Sponsored by Ipreo.) Any Meet Up members want to go? Please reply to the whole group and maybe we can arrange a way to meet. :)

  • Social gathering at Hibernian Pub & Restaurant
Hi everyone! We are very excited to kick off the spring with a meetup at Hibernian in N. Raleigh. We will have some of our OTs in attendance and look forward to seeing you there. This is a great opportunity for parents to talk with one another as well as meeting and visiting with some of our OTs. We've had a few questions regarding which events are for parents and which ones for kids. This one is intended to be focused on parents. We also post events on here that are focused on kids, please look for those as well. Let us know if you have questions. We look forward to seeing everyone!
