7,000 gigawatts of solar thermal electricity = 7 terawatts, 7 times what the US uses now (Power lines would be HVDC - high voltage direct current for lowest long distance power loss.. This would cost large sums to implement, of course. Of course, the USA does spend large sums on various other things right now.)
