Jon, This is an excellent idea. I believe we need to take some of the mystery out of this policy concept. I'm glad Bill mentioned viable alternatives in his suggestion. Let's put the word out there. Anyone who knows anyone who might be able to represent these ideas please contact Jon or me. Thank you, MaryLou6

Jon,
I would be very interested in attending a
discussion on cap & trade & viable alternatives. I know I could
get at least a couple of other very interested peopleto attend also.
That might be one we'll need a larger facility for.

Good idea for a subject for a Meet-Up. There are
lots of alternatives to "Cap and Trade" vs carbon tax. A new one is Cap and
Dividend which is a possible ammendant to the current legisdlative proposals.
We can talk about that this afternoon. There are plenty of people locally that
could be asked to participate.
Location: You are right about the coffee
area at the Public Market. It is OK for an informal discussion but not good
for a more formal presentation or a video. If too many people show up today we
will quickly run out of room.
"What
happened to other meeting places like the Merchandise Mart, which was a superb
place to meet?"

business ; victim of the economy; we
can see if anyone else tries to take that over. The library let us use a
room on a one time basis but would not commit to an every month arrangement.
We can check again. This is certainly something we need to discuss. Please
bring your ideas!!

Dear Vinny and Paul et
al,
This is an interesting debate and
Vinny offers an interesting and possible viable alternative to "cap and
trade" where carbon credits get auctioned off to the
highest bidder. Does that really do anything to solve the "climate
crisis"? Why not have an Alternative Energy-Meet-up real live
debate on this subject--"Cap and Trade and Viable Alternatives."
And are there any legitimate scientists--other than ill-fated
Tim Ball--who offer some really good and viable criticism for the
mainstream (lame stream) media and conventional wisdom views about human
caused climate change? I've got an hour documentary that offers a
counter view--not sure whether Tim Ball is one of
the commentators.
  The
article which Paul references about the "Decline of Tim Ball..." while
interesting and informative, doesn't seem to relate to the topic at
hand--"Cap and Trade" as a solution to the burning of carbon emitting
fossil fuels.
  And
what about a better place to meet than the dinky little room,
appended to the coffee house/restaurant where the group is meeting
now? What happened to other meeting places like the Merchandise
Mart, which was a superb place to meet? Are they now out of
business? What about going back to Burton Barr Library? What was wrong
with that meeting place? This little "cubby hole" at 14 East
Pierce as a meeting place stinks! How about discussing this at the
meeting today?

We have the opportunity to use the new Hydrogen Assn. location for meetings at various times. Please join us for discussions and activities on various subjects related to energy use and alternatives to our current carbon-based system.
