American Meetup: RSVP Today!

We've sorted a fireworks display, in central London for the 4th of July

Definitly a family friendly, kid friendly event

We'll announce location later today (as ALWAYS the venue is announced very near the time; as with EVERY single successful event we've run, for the last 12 years- And anyone would know that) Unfortunatly we have a LOT of shabby promoters who follow the site due to the large numbers of people we attract - it does not help that Meet up allows spammers to break up the community; It makes my work that much harder.

Posting "alternative events" does nothing to help me in my work of creating a real world social space for our community; See you tomorrow night!

Thanks for all the love, it was a really great joy to put this all together! - What I really need now are some more snaps - especialy ones of the "BRADLEY MANNING Banners". x It is his final week of trial; we should all be thinking about his sacrifice and sending our support - The real question Americans need to be asking is "Can Sarah Palin see Edward Snowden from her front porch?" x

I came to this event with no expectations and was blown away by the spectacle. Great to actually enjoy fantastic fireworks without the burden of crowds. It turns out I had a better 4th of July eve than my friends & family in the US! People were all wonderful too so yes THANK YOU for organizing.

4th of July; Thank you all so much for coming! The culmination of 8 years of trying to (literally) get this fireworks show off the ground. Lets do this again next year!

Wow. There we were, expecting two firecrackers, a roman candle and some sparklers but Wilber pulls off a very impressive fireworks show!! Very, very good. Who the heck paid for all that?!

THERE IS ONLY ONE MEETUP: (And if you build it, they will come. Or something like that...x) We meet at Lambeth Bridge, from 10:00 pm (as that is when it gets dark). In the mean while there is ample Green parkspace & gardens nearby for your families; a GREAT pub on the south side of the river, if that is to your liking and plenty of daylight time to enjoy the 4th with those you love and make fellowship if far away from home untill the FIREWORKS! x

This event cost a great deal to produce; not to mention the clearences required to get a fireworks show in Central London (I've been trying for years!) Not to mention (But I will x) the 12 years I took in building this communnity in simply FINDING the expat community - I did not do all of that work for a cheezy promoter to fill a grotty club on an empty night - the jetrag thing is a lie.

See you tonight at an All American, family 4th! Something that's REALLY like home. x

In defense of the Jetlag, it is not cashing in, the bar shows a number of college football games through the season, so they do have a reasonable American market to cater to. It would be nice if thier was an event in T sq, like the Canada day celebrations but their we good. Thier are a number of celebrations although some are hard to find, in London tonight, although I must hand it to Anthony for organsizing a firewroks dispaly. Happy July 4th to all and in the spirit of the day life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the pursuit of a great event to celebrate this wonderful day.

    July 4, 2013

  • Karri

Hi everyone - I feel like with all the discussion about JetLag - I should step up and say that it was me and that I'm sorry about any confusion it caused. I am not a spammer and Jetlag is not a scam (in that JetLag actually is having a 4th of July celebration - American movies - etc. - you can check it out on the website). It was only a suggestion for something to consider as nothing had been posted yet. Last year we met in a pub and it was nice and I just happened to come across this one (Jetlag) that already had some American themes going on. So very very sorry about confusing people or people thinking I was trying to spam/scam - not the case. Really it was just an idea. Sorry to Anthony (Wilber) if it messed up any planning - again not my intention. And also well done on getting the fireworks. I know you have been trying to do that for a number of years.

Happy 4th Everyone! And if promise not to throw me over the bridge I'll come join you for the fireworks.

    1 · July 4, 2013

  • Erica

Yeah! Thanks for organising, Wilber. This one sounds even better than the pub event last year. And far more authentic. A fireworks display in London?! Hoorah! 13 years on this wet island and I finally get both the weather and the celebration to enjoy the 4th properly in London. You are a star! :)

    July 4, 2013

    • Erica

PS For anyone who is confused, these events are always a last minute scramble to avoid spammers setting in early (ie that jetlag bar thing – total scam). But the turnouts are amazing. There is a green space on the south side of Lambeth bridge that is perfect for both picnic and watching fireworks (I saw the New Years fireworks there just this year). Hope this helps and see you there! :)

      July 4, 2013

    • Wilber W.

      Thanks, Erica

      July 4, 2013

  • Bree

To recap the meeting is at Jetlag isn't it?

    1 · July 4, 2013

Bree, hope you got your confusion sorted. The meetup is at Lambeth Bridge.

      1 · July 4, 2013

(sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound like an attitude. Totally unintented!!)

      July 4, 2013

I think I'm going for the official one- the bridge! But which part of the bridge?... and is there gonna be a sign or something... ; )

    1 · July 4, 2013

  • Erika

So confused. I checked out jetlag, I guess I thought the meetup people were having a more family friendly affair, and not sure a pub will be too much fun for the kids. Anyway, we'll see

    July 4, 2013

Jetlag bar? That's near Regent's Park isn't it? And nowhere near Lambeth Bridge. I'm confused ;-)

    July 4, 2013

  • Brigitte C.

I'm a little confused... Will anyone be around at 9:30 or are people meeting at 10?

    July 4, 2013

If anybody knows what's going on with this meetup, ie what time it actually starts and where, could you please email me? I never know what's going on with this meetup group. Very annoying.

    July 4, 2013

I dont understand, at the top it says it doesn't start until 10pm. I thought there was stuff going on earlier for the kids, etc??
