March Londroid - Data storage and sync

6:30pm - Hello's

6:45pm - SyncAdapter : let android sync your App -

Sébastien Rouif

7:15pm - Sync is hard: building offline-first Android apps from the ground up - James Nocentini

8pm - Head to the Pub!

About our Speakers and talks:

Sébastien Rouif -  MonitiseCreate

Building application that work offline often leads to the same questions about data quality, syncing and connectivity. I will break those questions and show an architecture using core Android components such as Content Provider and SyncAdapter. I will also give more details and resources on actual implementation of that architecture.

Sébastien is working as an Android Developer at Monitise Create. Previously, he worked at ubiCabs leading the mobile team and deploying the company's technology in multiple contries. Before moving to London he used to work in San Francisco for Peugeot-Citroen looking for new technologies to integrate into cars.

James Nocentini - Couchbase

There are different strategies when adding an offline cache to android applications. The popular libraries such as Retrofit, Jackson/Gson and ORMLite make a good combo for adding a cache. But as the developer using those libraries, you are still left facing some challenges with offline caching. I will  cover what they are and the sync approach Couchbase Mobile provides for building offline-first applications.

James is the developer advocate for Couchbase Mobile in Europe. Previously, he worked at a couple of startups in London building websites and apps. Having faced the problems of offline synchronisation himself, his focus is to make Couchbase Mobile the most intuitive solution to solve those challenges.
