Re: [londroid] Galaxy Nexus now 200 extra i.e. 629.95 today at Phones 4U, 112 Oxford Street

Aaron, yes, maybe HTC, who knows, but now Google owns Moto I'd expect their phones to more tightly serve the needs of Android. If they stop skinning and do upgrades quicker, then a MOTO is like a Nexus anyway.

I phoned round some Three shops today. My local one said they have some, but only available on contract. Another told me they have some and will sell on PAYG, so I popped over and bought one. £499+£15 credit, and apparently unlockable.

Initial impressions are that it's a big step forward from the Nexus One. It's not as big as I expected; it's a lot longer and a bit wider, but thinner.

There are weird artefacts all over the screen, I assume from it being pentile, which makes it look a bit like fibrous paper. Text is very sharp, pleasingly so. It's far better than the Nexus One.

It seems nice and snappy, though in 1hr of testing (sign in, install apps) I burned through 15% of battery, that's not a good sign. I suspect I'll be buying a spare for it to carry around.

Given I never bought a Nexus S, this is a great upgrade for me. I would be surprised if I still use it as my main phone in six months though. I want one with better battery life, SD slot, quad-core and a screen without pentile.

Kenton: what did you mean by this? "devs desperate to get a Galaxy Nexus can only do so by paying a £200 premium over when Samsung were keeping them under control yesterday." what was the £200 premium over when Samsung?

Ollie: is it time it went full circle and get HTC to make the next one... I mean there are problems with the Nexus One but the biggest one is the screen which is Samsung anyway. I really need to upgrade and not sure i can wait till the next Nexus.

Three are expecting to deliver stock to customers on Tuesday (you have to pay £10 credit, and £15 unlock fee, and phone at £499.99). Amazon still saying Dec 2nd.

P4U can take a jump. I'd rather wait than buy from them.

O2 a waste of time for many as they are saying they only sell locked phones, and no unlock possible for a year.

Way to go with your "launch" Samsung. I WANT TO BUY ONE, why are you making it so damn hard?

Hopefully the phone after this won't be a Samsung. Somehow I suspect it might be a MOTO...

In case I gave anyone the impression that I felt Phones4U to be any
sort of ethical establishment that you should ever entertain gracing
with your business, and in case you should ever consider going there
for your phones in the future, please don't forget what they did to
London's Android developer community today - devs desperate to get a
Galaxy Nexus can only do so by paying a £200 premium over when Samsung
were keeping them under control yesterday.

Don't forget how Phones4U treated us today in future, please. And if
you can wait a few more days (and you can, I love mine but you really
*can* wait!), you can still buy it from Amazon for £519.99 instead:
