Do you consider yourself a vegan or a vegetarian? How long have you been one?

I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years. I started realizing how much cruelty there was to animals at a young age and started with boycotting veal when I was around 10. then starting eliminating animal products one by one, until I went vegan (finally !!) about 8 months ago. I am so much happier now!!

What made you decide to become vegan/vegetarian?

The conditions of animals in so many circumstances- factory farming, circuses, zoos, competition- as a veterinarian I have spent alot of time with animals in pain, fearful... and I have come to recognize the intelligence that is inherent in every species. They deserve respect and conditions that allow a healthy, happy life, free of fear, free of exploitation.. I realized early on that the suffering of animals for food, clothes, entertainment... is do solely to human greed and it is unjustifiable. SO... I did what I could, although not being completely aware of what was happening... stopped eating veal at about 10 year old... then all red meat... then chicken and turkey... then fish... its been a lifelong process and finally went vegan shortly after moved to California... the veil was lifted and there was no turning back.

Care to share any favorite vegan recipes?

Yes... some Greek dishes... if you like Greek food may I suggest wonderful recipes!!

Any suggestions for future meet-up events?

Vegan international food pot luck.... crafts is always fun- pottery, painting etc...

Are there any great vegan resources/websites that we may have missed on our other page?
