This is a huge campaign by WSPA (world society for  the protection of animals) supported by many others like Animals Count, RSPCA, Humane Society International...until 800 animal welfare groups from 147 countries. If you agree with their views you can sign the petition.

Animals Matter to Me

Why get involved with World Animal Week?
World Animal Week 2008 There are so many issues to be concerned about and engaged with today. But World Animal Week offers us a chance to focus on animal welfare for seven days and to really make an impact - by acting for animals in large numbers.
You can make a difference during 4-10 October 2008 ... in just minutes.
Last year, individuals talked to friends and colleagues, forwarded emails and websites, posted messages on social networks, passed around petition sheets, held events, and together collected an amazing 280,000 signatures in support of the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare.
International public support is what will carry the Declaration to the floor of the United Nations and help it achieve the biggest possible change for animals: acceptance from world leaders that they - and their welfare - matter.
So please gather as many signatures in support of animal welfare as you can during World Animal Week.
Getting started: visit the Animals Matter website to download posters and petition sheets, send more information to your friends, and read about last year's World Animal Week successes for inspiration!

Thank you.
