The Birds - with intro commentary by Ann Glenn Cruse (click below for trailer)

Bow Tie Cinemas at the Harbour Center continues its weekly "Cine Classic" film series with director Alfred Hitchcock's "last unflawed film," the 1963 horror classic, The Birds. This suspense thriller began a mini-genre of "nature's revenge" movies in the 1960s and 70s (Remember Killer Bees?)

One of the more existential of Hitchcock's films, The Birds brings up lots of questions but supplies few answers. It doesn't fail to deliver, however, in its scary and macabre story. Although the movie's special effects are primitive by today's standards, Hitchcock tells the story using them with his usual mastery of the camera.

You can watch the very droll trailer for the film (starring Hitch himself) here:

On Saturday April 20, starting at 10:30 a.m., I'll give a 25 minute talk before the film featuring information about its production and behind-the-scenes stories and trivia.

Admission is $5.50 ($4.50 with a Bow Tie free Criterion Club card which can be obtained online at Bow Tie's website or at the theater.)

Be sure to check Bow Tie Harbour 9's website for the complete list of weekend Cine Classic films scheduled for April.

I'll be doing presentations, beginning at 10:30 a.m., for each film at its Saturday screening.

Hope to see lots of fellow Annapolis Movie Club members Saturday mornings at Bow Tie Harbour 9.

Wonderful as usual! Now I have seen it 14 times from beginning to end-first time with commentary.
