Let's take advantage of the unseasonably nice weather and do an evening hike. We'll get some after-work exercise and enjoy the full moon and the twinkly city lights below. We'll take a dinner break at the top where there are a couple of picnic tables. Please bring dinner and snacks.
The 4-mile loop will take us about 3 hours - depends how long we linger at dinner. We should be back at the cars around 9pm. Total elevation gain is about 1,000 ft.
Please bring a working headlamp. If you don't have a headlamp, bring a flashlight and gloves. I have extra flashlights I can loan to folks but I don't have extra gloves. So at least bring a pair of gloves.
My hikes tend to be at a slower pace than most meetups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation. Fast-pace hikers are welcome to join and run ahead - all I ask is that you please wait at all trail intersections esp. if you're not familiar with the route.
It will likely be chilly and windy at our dinner spot on the ridge. Bring a hat, scarf, gloves, warm jacket, red wine, etc... Whatever you need to stay warm while we hang out at dinner.
There is a portapotty at the trailhead, but no water.
Trails are dog-friendly. Woof! Please keep Fido on leash, not everyone in the group is comfortable around dogs.
MEETING SPOT AND DIRECTIONS
We will meet at the Quarry parking lot - a dirt lot along Wildcat Canyon Road, between South Park Drive and Inspiration Point. Do not use the meetup map. It's dead wrong. Use THIS GOOGLE MAP or coordinates[masked], [masked] to get there.
FYI - South Park Drive is closed for the season, so keep that in mind when you look up directions.
Please get directions ahead of time so you can be on time. Do not rely on your phone to navigate up there. The Berkeley hills are notorious for unreliable cell service. I will not wait at the trailhead for more than a few minutes past the posted start time.
