Walk all the Berkeley paths with BPWA (Part 3 of 6)

  • Mar 15, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Important note: I am not leading this hike. We are joining another very large group (expect 80-90 people). Please read details below.

The Berkeley Path Wanderers Association is organizing a series of walks that will cover all the Berkeley pedestrian paths and staircases over the next several months.  The hikes are free and open to the public.  This third walk in the series is 6.2miles long.  No dogs are allowed.

Here's what I learned from the previous 2 walks in the series:

About 80 people showed up. I don't know if the walks will continue to be as popular, but we may be joining a big group again.  This may cause parking issues at the meeting spot.  Come early and give yourself 10 extra minutes to find parking in the neighborhood.

We will be joining another group and there's no way for me to tell our members apart in the crowd... I will try to spot you based on your profile photos, but if I fail to recognize you I'm sorry.  If you recognize me from my photo, then by all means please come over and introduce yourself. It's a long walk... time goes by faster if we socialize :)  Plus I usually bring good snacks and I share :)

The group leaves on time so please be on time.  To be clear - I am not organizing this walk, I am just following the BPWA walk leaders with the rest of you.  I can't wait for you and I am not privy to the route ahead of time. I do not know where we'll be 20 minutes or an hour into the walk so I can't be of any help if you're late.

The group is rather fast and doesn't take many breaks.  They do wait for stragglers to catch up but then as soon as we're caught up they take off again.  The walk leaders are two 12-year olds and have a lot of energy :)

Bring water and snacks and expect to eat as you walk.  There's no lunch and vino break :(

If you're not familiar with the paths, know that there are many hills and staircases. If you don't like taking the stairs when the escalator is out, this hike is not for you.  If you'd like to train and explore on your own, feel free to use my routes at this link: Most routes are about 2 to 4 miles and should give you a good feel about what to expect on the BPWA hike.  Message me or post a comment here if you have additional questions.

More details on the paths, BPWA, and the series' leaders (2 amazing middle schoolers) are here:

Walk 4 is on Sat 4/12 2pm

Walk 5 is on Sat 5/3 2pm

Walk 6 is on Sun 6/1 11:30am

Had a great time with people and exploring unknown (to me) parts of Berkeley!

There was too much walking through Tilden Park. It made the walk a lot longer and I thought the walk was going to be on the neighborhood paths.
