  • RAA Salon #12 Burning Man 2010 Travelogue w/slides - Talk re:attending BM 2011
Last year, I took my wife and daughter to Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada. I'd heard about the event for years and had always wanted to go. When it appeared we had a 4 day window to get down there and check it out, I jumped at the chance. In 2010 the theme was: Metropolis. It was such an interesting and stimulation Adventure, I am planning another trip down in 2011. This year's theme will be: Rites of Passage. http://www.burningman.com/ This meetup will feature a travelogue of our road trip to Nevada and a narrated slideshow that will highlight some of the experiences we had. If you have ever been curious about this event, you should come and check out this event. I'd like to form a little groupo of people who can venture down there this year so we'll have our own little built in community while we're there. We could even discuss putting together some type of interactive group camp. But that will require we get a minimum number of committed people together. There is literally so MUCH to see and do, it would be impossible to take it all in . We'll also have a discussion on Rites of Passage and how they are important/relevant in today's world. You'll be encouraged to participate in the discussion if you'd like to. What is a Salon? And why should you attend? The short answer is that you should come because it is good for the health of your soul (seriously!) Historically, the word Salon appeared in 1664 in France. It is derived from the Italian word salone, the large reception hall of a mansion. At Rediscover the Art of Adventure, a Salon is a congregation of people who gather to socialize and interact with the intention of creating an elevated and eclectic discourse. This type of event is altogether too rare today, but vital in maintaining our positive social Adventure sphere. Because the RAA Salons usually include a social and artistic element, we may also have a featured guest presenting either a musical offering or some type of performance or reading (contact me directly if you’d like to either do something yourself, or nominate someone else). We’ll have a break with light and healthy refreshments offered after Myles and Tessa’s presentation. Following that there will be a facilitated discussion amongst the group where ideas will be exchanged; this is our intellectual discourse portion of the agenda. Last time we talked about the education system and why boys are falling behind girls. This time it will be something completely different. There will be a $5 courtesy donation as part of the evening, which will cover light snacks and refreshments that will be included in the program. Payment can be made prior to the meetup via Paypal, or paid in cash on the spot. Failing to show up after RSVP'ing is poor form, so don't do it. That behavior is simply disrespectful. Plan to attend and enjoy this special event. RAA is known for its healthy and creative fare, but it will be light enough that it won't replace your dinner. Kerry will host the evening and there will be a discussion at the end of the night that will be open to input from everybody. The NIGHT WILL START ON TIME, so please arrive NO LATER THAN 7:15PM. This is to avoid interruption once the night has started and to give respect to everyone in attendance. Plus, if you are late, there may be a chance that you'll be sitting on the floor as we'll have a full house this time. Space will be limited, so RSVP soon. And to repeat: if you RSVP 'Yes', do NOT change your RSVP a day or two prior to the event leaving a gap that someone else may have taken had the space been available earlier. It is poor form to cancel within 48 hours of the event. There is visitor parking underneath the complex for those getting here in time to grab it.

  • Paint Dancing Party - Create Art to Music With Fellow Artists of Adventure
Greetings Everybody! I'm the organizer of the Rediscover the Art of Adventure meetup. We have had one version of this meetup that was so much fun, we're going to do it again! COME JOIN US!!!! A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to a local children's charity. Put on an old set of clothes and come out for a one-of-a-kind event: The RAA Paint Dancing Party! Discover your passionate inner Picasso! This will be a two hour event, with all materials supplied for you to create fabulous artwork. Is there a wall in your home or office that needs a special piece of art? Perhaps you've got a birthday present you've got to give soon? They say a work of art is a much better gift than a store-bought present, you know. We'll be set up at tables and given a huge assortment of paints to work with. These will be water soluble. As a special bonus, we'll also have a rainbow of GLITTER GLUES! You'll have access to plentiful paper, both colored and white to work with, so if something isn't turning out as you want it, get a new sheet. An assortment of music will be played featuring an eclectic range of inspiring music. Bring your MP3 player if you want to contribute to the mix and we'll include your selections in the music. Do you have to dance? No, you can simply paint if you'd like. Let your brush do the dancing for you. Finished pieces will be set aside to dry. Everyone will be GIVEN a small real artists canvass to work with towards the end of the session, too. You can use this to create an polished piece if you like that you can bring home to install in a place of honor. Extra canvasses may be available for an additional $5/piece while supplies last if you'd like to make several pieces - or a matching set. There are a ton of brushes of different shapes and sizes to use as well. It may get a bit messy, so don't be surprised if you come home more colorful than when you left. Payment can be made via Paypal, by check, or in cash. Please let me know how you'd like to take care of payment. Advance payment is appreciated. All ages are welcome. See you there!

Greetings Everybody! I'm the organizer of the Rediscover the Art of Adventure meetup. I've belonged to this group for some time and since there has been no meetup scheduled, I decided to have one of my own. To my pleasant surprise, Matt the organizer of this meetup contacted me to see if I wanted to join his Paint Dancing organization. So, he made me an assistant organizer here so I could post his event here, too. COME JOIN US!!!! A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to a local children's charity.
