What we’re about
*** Update for 2021 ***
This is now a listing of various arts events that you should go to, with an anarchistic approach to event organisation (there is none. If you'd like to go in the spirit of Meetup, post the colour of your hat in the Meetup comments.)

Do you like the arts? Do you like drinking? Do you think the arts should be more about who you're with than how much you're paying? If your answer to these is a resounding yes (well, at least the first two), this is the group for you. We've focused on visual art as our main events, but there are plenty of cheap shows, movies, live music acts, festivals etc in the inner Sydney area. Let's chase it down with a drink.
Jason's current favourite quote about art, by Susan Sontag in Against Interpretation and other essays:
"Interpretation takes the sensory experience of the work of art for granted, and proceeds from there… Ours is a culture based on excess, on overproduction; the result is a steady loss of sharpness in our sensory experience. All the conditions of modern life — its material plenitude, its sheer crowdedness — conjoin to dull our sensory faculties. And it is in the light of the condition of our senses, our capacities (rather than those of another age), that the task of the critic must be assessed. What is important now is to recover our senses. We must learn to see more, to hear more, to feel more."
