What we’re about
Come into the ArtHouse ! Meet with local film and arts lovers to watch indie, foreign and classic films! We'll also attend art gallery openings, theater performances, Embassy evenings, museums, author readings and interesting concerts. And more often than not, there will be a reception! The idea will be to keep the price down and participation and conversation up!
We'll go wherever art house films are screened in town--museums, cultural institutions, embassies, local film festivals, as well as arthouse film meccas like the Goethe Institute, AFI Silver Theater and Landmark Theaters. We'll attend galleries you may not know and museums on special days. We're also connected to the theater world so we'll be seeing some of those shows.
Please be sure to read the group's attendance policy on the message board or "About Us" section. Also, note that the Art House meetup is a group for ACTIVE members fully engaged and interested in attending outings. Inactive members who have not logged into the site for 6 months or more are automatically removed to ensure the integrity of the group.
Members are asked to donate $1 per meetup they attend to help cover the Meetup.com fees ($72 per 6 months). You can make this 'suggested donation' online via Paypal or in person to your organizer. Your contribution is much appreciated!

We love the DCEFF festival taking place from March 21-30 at venues across the city. The closing night presentation is called We Are Guardians and is a Shared Earth Foundation Award Winner. The film will be followed by a conversation with filmmakers Chelsea Greene, Rob Grobman, & Edivan Guajajara. A Saturday night - what's not to like?
Admission includes the Closing Night Reception: drinks and light hors d'oeuvres will be offered after the screening and conversation. This will sell out! Tickets (which are about $27) can be bought at this link. Use the code ECAEFF at checkout for 25% off - makes it a pretty good deal! (It also should work with any other films you have to pay for. We Are Guardians follows Indigenous forest guardian Marçal Guajajara and activist Puyr Tembé as they fight to protect their territories from deforestation, an illegal logger who has no choice but to cut the forest down, and a large landowner at the mercy of thousands of invaders and extractive industry.
Through intimate, character focused storytelling, the film brings the issues to the forefront — from the science of the Amazon Rainforest and its pivotal role in our global climate stability to the economic drivers of deforestation. The film weaves together politics, history, economics, science, and consciousness, providing an in-depth exploration of this incredibly complex and critical situation — the origins and the impact of which ripple out far beyond the boundaries of the Amazon itself. Directed by Indigenous activist Edivan Guajajara and environmental filmmakers Chelsea Greene and Rob Grobman; produced by Academy Award winner Fisher Stevens.

Leslie Wallace is a promising Black writer who has just landed her first deal with HBO. Her celebration is cut short when she gets a surprise visit from Andrew, a white man from her grad school cohort, who accuses her of plagiarizing his script. Their confrontation—and eventual uneasy alliance—forces a reckoning on representation, privilege, and who gets to tell what kinds of stories. Full of humor and complex characters, A Jumping-Off Point is a sharp and electric new play from rising star playwright and screenwriter Inda Craig-Galván. (Part of the National Capital New Play Festival)
