Global Glimpses, National Geographic's showings of all 5 Oscar-nominated foreign films returns in February over President's Day Weekend. They really do it up right - each film either follows or precedes a reception, all for a very reasonable price. I'm going to list all five films because you can buy the series for just $41. You can also buy each film individually for $9 each. Click here (http://events.nationalgeographic.com/events/event-series/global-glimpses-series/) to purchase tickets.
Most likely all films will sell out. Kon-Tiki tells an age-old story. When anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl develops a theory that native Polynesians came originally from the Americas rather than Asia, his ideas are dismissed by the scientific community (including, as the film depicts, the National Geographic Society!). Determined to prove that the ocean journey would be possible, Heyerdahl builds a balsawood raft, the Kon-Tiki, and sets sail with five companions from Peru to Polynesia. (Norway, 118 minutes) A reception precedes the film at 6.
Again, this film will most likely sell out You can click here (http://events.nationalgeographic.com/events/event-series/global-glimpses-series/) to buy a ticket for just this or the entire series. National Geographic is very easy to get to, just a couple blocks from the Metro or they have free underground parking.
