The Dupont Circle monthly Art Gallery Walk is an institution in Washington and we haven't done it as a group in over a year. FOTOWEEK starts its 4th year, I believe, on Friday, and has already become an institution. So let's combine the two. I think we can walk an interesting route and hit at least 5 or 6 galleries (including some photo exhibits), and then have a casual dinner together.
We'll gather in the bottom level of the Studio Gallery on R Street where there is an exhibit called Fotoweek DC: Mark and Master. They invited professors from the photography departments of several metro DC universities to show their best work. We also might visit the Alex Gallery, the newly installed Cross MacKenzie, the esteemed Marsha Mateyka (if they're open), Hillyer (always interesting and lively and featuring photos from Min Enghauser called Desert Dwell); we will then walk across the circle to the excellent Foundry Gallery where Amy Barker-Wilson has a solo show and then perhaps even the Science Club on 19th St. for a photo exhibit that features photographers from Mexico, India, Canada, England and Portugal.
It's a wonderful and inexpensive social evening. To get to Studio Gallery, take the Metro to Dupont Circle, exit the North side, walk 2 blocks up to R Street, take a left and then walk two short blocks. It will be on your left. My number is 703 338-7494.
You can register for Fotoweek DC here. (http://www.fotoweekdc.org/index.php) It's not necessary for this evening but is for many other events between Nov. 4-12. We will be doing a couple.
