This is one of my favorite events of the year and I need your help. The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia has a wonderful program where they pair immigrants wanting to learn English with Americans willing to teach them one-on-one. This Holiday Potluck Party celebrates the bonds that these partnerings creates between the tutor and the immigrant (and his or her family). It's a wonderful thing to see. We will help them out so everything goes smoothly and we will also eat well. The people involved in these partnerships bring the food - that means that you will see dishes from all over the world. And again, we are more than welcome to eat along with everyone else. They will need our help checking people in, keeping the food tables clean and in order, keeping drinks stocked, having fun with the kids from the families, and cleaning up at the end.
Parking is plentiful but there is no Metro service here - though I could possibly pick a couple people up. It helps greatly if you can get there by 6 - if not, then you would need to stay til the end. We do not have to bring any food.
They asked for about 10 volunteers. Unlike other events, it will be very important for you to attend if you sign up.
