Griffith Observatory, Star Party: Find Us on Lawn, next to Astronomers Monument!

General Information

Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California's most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighborhood. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and is visible from many parts of the Los Angeles basin.

The mission of Griffith Observatory is inspiring everyone to observe, ponder, and understand the sky.

Griffith Observatory
2800 East Observatory Road
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(213)[masked]

This address can be entered into GPS or mapping programs to get to the Observatory.

Admission to the Observatory building and grounds is FREE. There is a nominal charge to see shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.

Public Star Parties

Free public star parties are held monthly with the assistance of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society and the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers at the Griffith Observatory from 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. They are a chance for the whole family to look at the sun, moon, visible planets, and other objects, to try out a variety of telescopes, and to talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment.

Please be aware that the astronomers and telescope demonstrators must cut off the line for each telescope to enable all viewing to be completed by 9:45 p.m. Hours for telescope operation are not the same as for the building (which closes at 10:00 p.m.).

Wonderful event! Great idea to invite the Culture Pub members. How exciting to see Saturn and Jupiter and such a close up of the moon. Thanks MeetUp coordinators!

I know this has been mentioned, before, but PLEASE send private messages to the person you are talking to and not the whole group. If you click on Culture Pub Members in the left-hand column and then search for the person by name, you can then click "email" and talk with them specifically. Thanks!

New to LA area and this is a bit of a drive. Anyone interested in car pooling with me? I live in Tustin, near Irvine and Newport Beach and would drive to pick you up.
