LOST (in LA) EXHIBITION OPENING

Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Founded and opened in 1954, its mission is to promote, interpret, and present the art of emerging, mid career, and established artists from culturally diverse Southern California. The Gallery showcases art from other parts of the world that is of relevance to the people of the City of Los Angeles. The museum is located at the beautiful Barnsdall Park in Hollywood, next to the noted American architect Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House.

LOST (in LA) is an exhibition and an innovative dialogue between LA artists and French artists. It reproduces the quintessential Los Angeles experience of being lost in the heart of this metropolis. Layers of time and space appear to be interlaced together atop a hill hidden in the middle of the city.

A grace note in the ongoing dialogue/collaboration between French and LA art worlds. Although I wasn't a fan of the television series upon which the exhibition is based (Lost), something to the effect of real/not real was investigated — and we certainly know something 'bout that here in LA, ne convenez-vous pas ? Sculpture, photography, video, drawing, installation and arcane collections, exquisitely mounted and provoking inspired conversation on the balcony bar over champagne.
