L.A. Archives Bazaar 2012 - FREE EVENT

This is the 7th annual FREE event of museum/history related exhibitors from throughout California who come together and "show-off" their stuff. There were 1,000 attendees for 2011. I was a volunteer for the event last year, and will be again in 2012. My understanding is that the event is sponsored by the Getty Museum. For more details, pls visit the website: http://www.laassubject.org/index.php/archives_bazaar

L.A. Archives website is updated with more program details for 10/27/12 event. I learned about the event in 2011 and volunteered then. L.A. Archives showed their appreciation to all volunteers by way of "refreshments" in the morning, afternoon, and post-event reception. But, it was more like a banquet! "Refreshments" for 2012 has just been posted for the volunteers. I'm looking forward to the day. If you can DONATE your time, to attend as a volunteer, it could be very enjoyable. (FREE PARKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TOO!) If interested, find the VOLUNTEER button still up on website . . .

By the way, in 2011, there were several interesting FREE lectures. So many I wanted to attend, so many choices, but I couldn't make all of them.

Hello all. The L.A. Archives Bazaar are exhibitors who are in one place to introduce themselves of who they are and what they are all about. It could be museums, libraries, archives/records type organizations, special collections on view, brochures, handouts, historical societies, genealogy societies, meeting and talking to the reps. Sort of like a "live" search on-line; looking to see what is available to see and do in the local area. I didn't know what to expect as my first time as attendee/volunteer in 2011. I loved it so much, that I think other with similar interests may find the event enjoyable. Attendees to the event has grown from a couple of hundred to over a 1,000 in just six years. Word is getting out there, and/or people are returning. It's FREE admission. Parking in the USC structures is about $10.

Oops, correction - my first experience to L.A. Bazaar was 2011, as a volunteer and attendee, NOT 2006. This Oct 2012 is my second year to attend and volunteer.

My first experience was 2006. It is an exhibit of organizations that introduce the public of their existance, with pictures, brochures, handouts, of such. Sort of a HALL OF 'WHO WE ARE' - it could be museum reps, historical society reps, geneaolgy reps. From Glendale, about 14 miles - I guess take 101 to 110South, exit Exposition (?) - Doheny Library is within the USC campus. Gorgeous in itself, I felt as if I was in an 'outdoor' museum' - I enjoyed the campus surroundings before I entered the Doheny Library.
