Conversations with Contemporary Artists: Glenn Ligon

Glenn Ligon is known for his resonant works that explore issues of race, sexuality, representation, and language. Ligon has said of his work that he strives to “make language into a physical thing, something that has real weight and force to it.” To this end, both as a source of imagery and a means of addressing the politics of representation, he frequently incorporates evocative quotations from culturally charged and historically relevant material by writers such as James Baldwin, Jean Genet, and Zora Neale Hurston. Working in a variety of media, including paint, neon, installation, video, and print, Ligon’s oeuvre surveys America’s cultural legacies and situates them in contemporary life. His work is currently on view in the Fast Forward exhibition and in our permanent-collection modern and contemporary galleries, located on the Wieland Skyway

Tickets: $10 for members; $15 for non-members; $5 for students with valid ID. Seating is limited. To make a reservation, please call the Woodruff Arts Center Box Office at[masked]-5000.

I'm afraid we shan't be meeting up. I'm flying in that evening, and scrambling to do anything around this event. Perhaps, next time about my dear girl. However, if that changes miraculously; details will be posted here.
