Monthly Standing Beer Meet Up

A few of you have asked for me to set up a standing meetup so we all have something to look forward to. So, the 3rd Tuesday of the month it is. I may ask some of you to help out with an occasional sign when I am not there. See you at Green Man.

Please, that's such conservative thinking. To worry so much! We are not going to exceed the limit of the size of these places. If we did, that would be a good thing and I'm sure accommodations would be made to handle the situation. Historically, if 40 people RSVP we do not have nearly that many that show up. Chris, keep up the good work! And don't limit RSVP's. If I'm proven wrong, I'll buy the first round. Quaff-Quaff :)

Actually, its the law (fire code)... which is why some of our previous meetups have been unsuccessful, because no one wanted to wait in line for half an hour.

Good point. I'll set limits for Poe House, Burial & Oyster House now. Thanks!

Burial has room for 60, and even on opening day, the line at its worst was 5 minutes... they plan on building a walk way from street to outside, however, which would expand it to 90.

I've tried that Kraken Stout. Very high ABV!

OK, Beer Brothers...since you've called me on it; I will humbly accept the organizer appellation and am honored to join your illustrious ranks. My philosophy is that all the local breweries should be acquainted with the power of our group. And it seems to me that our meetup should equally support all hardy entrepreneurs that risk their personal fortunes to serve our beer habit in Buncombe County. With Hi-Wire, Burial, Twin, Catawba all joining the scene; along with Wicked Weed and Altamont, we will never get stale. There is no suggestion on my part to leave the Downtown/River Arts/West Asheville area. That's our bread and butter. But, honestly, we should have the venues fighting to host us. However, our signature event is the monthly meetup and I see no rational reason to have it at Green Man exclusively. Cheers!

Thank you Mike. I agree with you and look forward to attending your 1st event

Rather than say that people like consistency; why not float out some alternative venues and put it to an actual vote or poll? I've been a member of many meetups and eventually the ones that try to run on auto pilot jump the shark. In a city blessed with so many breweries; I'd like to see much more variety. Mountain bikers don't ride the same trail over and over, when there are so many awesome trails. I feel the same way about meetups. Now that we have someone paying to be a Beer Meetup leader, perhaps they should assume this task. Just my opinions. Thanks for what we have.

As a side note, every time we hold the standing meet up down south, (once or twice a year) a lot of people complain and end up going to Greenman instead. I can't make everyone happy all the time. That it why we have numerous organizers who hold different types of events. If anybody ever wants to hold an event, all you have to do is e-mail me and I will change your role to organizer. Or, just suggest a meet up with a time and a place and if 2 other people want to attend, it automatically becomes a meet up.

I (since I live in Hendo) tried to move the standing meetup to Southern App or Thirsty Monk South a couple times making many unhappy. I guess it was too far to drive. In any case, I plan to do my part in posting some new meetups sometime soon. Some might be "road trips" to Brevard Brewing, Oskar Blues and/or The Poe House. Stay tuned...

How about a change of venue on occasion. I've heard both Asheville Brewing on Coxe and The Southern have $2 pints. Let's spread the love and our dollars. At ABC on Coxe we could all be outside and they have cornhole.

A lot of people really like the consistency of the Green Man meetup. That said, there's no reason why we can't set up more meetups at other locations. I have been saying for a while that I'd like to set up a Night Owl meetup as I personally prefer to be out riding/running after work and not go out until later at night, when the sun goes down. Guess I should get off my butt and do it.
