PLEASE NOTE MEET UP TIME MOVED BACK TO10:00
RSVPs open Thursday at 8:00 PM
Warren Wilson College has 25+ miles of hiking trails on its property. Trails vary, from Jones Mountain where the first settler in the Swannanoa Valley was killed (a historical marker identifies the location on this trail) to Dam Pasture and the ruins of the hydro-electric facility that used to power the original farm school, to pine forests, pastures, woodland groves, and river trails.
We'll explore a 9 miles stretch of this on Saturday, meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church and College Chapel parking area and setting out on foot from there.
I keep a brisk pace.
Jeanne Sommer, retired Warren Wilson professor and who has permission to hike on the property, will be leading this hike.
For directions to the chapel: From Asheville, take Exit 55 off of I-40 and to to Highway 70 and turn right at the stop light. Go 1.5 miles to the next light, which is Warren Wilson College Road. Turn left at the light. Go a couple of miles down WW Road. You'll go up a hill and drive under a pedestrian overpass. Take the North Entrance (turn left) and you will see the Warren Wilson Chapel in front of you. Parking is around the left side of the chapel.
ALTERNATE MEET UP SITES - if you want to carpool from different areas of Asheville, please use this page to post where and when. I can meet Brevard people at BiLo at say 8:30 if you want to carpool from Brevard area.
