It will more than likely rain on Saturday (70% chance) and possibly on Sunday (40%), so after it rains, then what do you do ? YOU GO SEE SOME WATERFALLS !!! Come join me and let's go see 5 waterfalls in Dupont State Forest. We'll start in the Hooker Falls Parking Lot and quickly check out Hooker Falls which is less than 1/2 mile from the parking lot. We will proceed to walk up Little River from the parking lot on Triple Falls Trail where we will stop to see...Triple Falls (Duh !) After taking in the beautiful scenery of the "Falls of the Triple" we'll get onto High Falls Trail for a short bit and wind up at High Falls, just below the covered bridge. We'll cross over the covered bridge on our way towards Grassy Creek Falls where we all say "Uhhh Ahhh, so pretty !".
From Grassy Creek Falls we will hike our way towards the south, and take Chestnut Oak Road then Joanna Road and connect with Conservation Road and finally onto Bridal Veil Falls Road to see our final waterfall - Bridal Veil Falls ! If the weather holds out then this would make a great spot for lunch, so bring your favorite hiking food and plenty of water.
The length of this hike I am approximating to around 8 miles (7.7 miles on Garmin Basecamp), so at the standard pace we should finish this hike at around 4 hours+, and add in time for lunch at Bridal Veil Falls possibly (if it isn't pouring).
- Please bring raingear !!!
- Dogs are welcome on this hike.
- The calculated elevation gain for this hike is ~1,200ft+ (that means over the entire 8 miles).
ALTERNATE MEETUP LOCATION:
Please make carpooling arrangements through the comments section on where you'd guys like to meetup at (it's usually the INGLES on Long Shoals, but you decide). Please give yourselves enough time to meet me at the BI-LO in Pisgah Forest by 9:00 and then we can all drive over to Dupont from there mat 9:15. We should arrive at the High Falls Parking lot between 9:40 and 9:50. This is the directions to the trailhead from BI-LO.
