RSVP ABUSE: The deadline for rsvp changes is 9:00pm the evening before the hike. This is to give enough notice to those on the wait list. "Maybe" = no. No shows are rude!
WEATHER: Hike not cancelled for weather conditions unless they pose a hazard such as icy roads or thunderstorms. You can find an excellent forecast the night before a hike at: weather.gov and enter 28801 in the zip code search feature. If the forecast does not suit you, change your RSVP status to "no" before 9:00pm the evening before the hike.
CELL PHONES/PERFUME: are incompatible with escaping to the woods.
DOGS: Are the owner's sole responsibility. This hike is mostly on Blue Ridge Parkway property. From the Parkway website: "Dogs and other pets are allowed on the Parkway but must be on a leash (not to exceed six feet) or otherwise under your physical control.
DIRECTIONS: SOME GPS DIRECTIONS TO FOLK ART CENTER ARE IN ERROR. From the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway and US-70 / Tunnel Rd, go north on the Parkway for about a half mile. Turn left at sign to Folk Art Center. We will meet in the parking lot south of the folk art center building, first lot on the right. Form shuttles and leave for trailhead on Parkway at Craven Gap no later than 9:10.
HIKE on the Mountains to Sea Trail back to the Folk Art Creek, about 5.2 miles. Trail will be mostly downhill with a few short steep uphill sections. We should be back to Folk Art Center before noon, car(s) at start of hike at Craven Gap will need to be retrieved.
