Let's do some hiking at the Vulcan Materials mining site to Fish Canyon Falls in the City of Duarte. We park our cars at the mining base and from there we get into these Vulcan Materials shuttles to the trailhead. The trail is approximately 5 miles roundtrip and each way takes around 45 minutes of hiking, not including waiting for the shuttle which usually takes around 10 minutes or so.

At the end of the Fish Canyon trail you would reach a 3 tiered waterfall that is 90 feet high and from the waterfall the water flows into a large and clear retaining pool before continuing it's way onward. Usually I just sit below the waterfall for a nice massage but you can decide for yourself. Other people jump from a ledge down to the retaining pool, which is approximately 12 feet below.

We have to do this hike on a Saturday as it's the only Access Day when Vulcan Materials provide the shuttle to the trailhead. The Access Days are only half as they are in previous years and thus I like to take advantage of these limited days as much as possible.

Additionally there usually is much amount of water in April compared to other months resulting in the falls to be full of water.

Light jacket may be needed and snacks and a 2 liter bottle of water is recommended.

There is no need for a national forest adventure pass because this site belongs to the Vulcan Materials Company so all is welcome.

Call me at:[masked] if you have any questions.

As for the directions to the mining base please go straight on Encanto Pkwy till you reach the end and DON'T TURN LEFT ON FISH CANYON RD.

The exact address should be: 4092 Encanto Pkwy, Duarte, CA 91010
