Astoria Writers Write(!)

Welcome all. Below you'll find our Sunday meeting format.

5:00-5:15: Requisite fifteen minute schmoozing.
5:15-6:15: We write for an hour, a la the "Shut Up & Write" meetups.
6:15-6:25: Replenish mind and body after intense and gratifying writing session via the ordering of food and drink.
6:25-8:00: We critique, in a a supportive way, two pieces from group members. The two pieces will have been designated the previous week. These files are available through the "Files" section on this site.
8:00: Sad farewells, until next week.

We look forward to seeing you at the Sunday AWG Meetup. Any questions, please feel free to contact us through this site.

PLEASE NOTE: You must attend at least one meetup before submitting a piece for review.

PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: It's probably a good idea to bring headphones and a music player, as it's unpredictable what sort of background noise is going to be going on during the writing session.

All files to be critiqued on Sunday are available from the "Files" section, which is under the "More" Menu at the top of the page. The direct link to the "Files" page is:

Do you guys ever have any meetups that are more down in the Broadway area of Astoria?

HI Elisa. We used to meet every week at Uncle George's, which closed last spring. Can you recommend a place on Broadway? We are always open to suggestion. I actually live off of Broadway, so it would be more convenient for me.

oh man Uncle George's was my favorite place!! I miss it so much! I went to a few NaNo meetups at the Panara Bread at[masked]th Ave, and it was a great environment for gathering and lingering (and eating). I would definitely recommend it, but I'll keep my eyes open for other places as well.
I'd love to join in with you guys, but unfortunately Mike's is in that "so close yet so far" realm of inconvenience for me.

Hey Guys--Can you please post a link from the file here? Are we only reading one piece this week?

Here's the general Files link. And yes, Mark's file is it for this week. That is unless you count the Broncos-Patriots game, which we will likely be informally evaluating during the meetup. :-)

Hey Marc. I just realized 02/02 is the Super Bowl, so, unless no one can make it, we'll do the Publishing Workshop at Enigma Books on 02/23.

Yes, yes . . . February 2 is a religious holiday so we have to assume that devout football fans will want to worship on that date.
