Vancouver Astronomy Meetup: Hot topic, A-list speaker, Special location

From: Howard T.
Sent on: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 5:05 PM
Hello:

I want to draw your attention to tomorrow's lecture, which will be on one of the hottest topics in astronomy - exoplanets, and which will be given by an A-list speaker, Dr. Kaspar von Braun of the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute at Caltech. His title is "Transiting Extrasolar Planets - An Introduction and More".

Please also take note of the special location for this talk: it will take place at the UBC Hennings Building (home of the physics and astronomy department), in Room 201. The start time is our usual 7:30PM, and we'll have a reception as usual following the talk.

For directions, please consult the UBC Wayfinding site:

http://www.maps.ubc.ca/PROD/index.php

In particular, the North Parkade and the UBC bus loop are about a five-minute walk from the Hennings Building.

To find the abstract for the talk, please consult the Meetup listing:

If you needed a special reason to attend this month's lecture, you've got at least two: the topic, and the speaker ;). I hope you will join with members of RASC Vancouver Centre tomorrow evening at UBC!

Finally, on behalf of RASC Vancouver Council, I'd like to thank Dr. Jaymie Matthews of UBC physics and astronomy for arranging the special location for tomorrow's talk.

Regards,
Howard Trottier
President, RASC Vancouver
