SUBJECT: 20 Years as a door-to-door Jehovah Witness Minister

Don worked as a door-to-door minister, which brought him face-to-face with believers and non-believers on a daily basis for nearly 20 years, and he learned how to make the scary and unpalatable part of religion sound sympathetic and attractive. He taught hundreds of Jehovah's Witnesses how to inspire people who were not favorably disposed to the Witnesses to change their position, and his approach was effective. He will describe the specific things that worked.

LOCATION: The Press Box Restaurant - 932 Second Avenue (bet. 49th & 50th Sts.) -2nd Floor

COST: BRUNCH is $20, which includes a selection of Buffet Entrees, salad, one soft drink, coffee, tax and tip.

Don is a delightful speaker--confident and insightful, personable and open. I didn't want his talk to end! He explained the pull of the Jehovah's Witness cult and the way it uses psychology to keep its members thinking they are safer, nicer and more moral than the rest of "the world." He explained how his doubts piled up over the nearly 20 years he was in the cult until finally he could not take part in the charade anymore. Today, he confesses, he feels that ALL religion is a hoax.

I find it hard to believe that anybody as smart as Don could be pulled into the Jehovah's Witness vortex, but apparently it does happen. We need to "save" more of these people, and I use the word "save" ironically because of course all religious cults believe they are "saving" us. I feel we need to save them from being "saved."

Plus, Don is a wonderful speaker. If he can carry his Jehovah's Witness's persuasion technque over to Atheism, it would be remarkable. I keep wondering: how could an intelligent, logical person have been swayed by the Jehovah Witness viewpoint for 20 YEARS? I once asked him that. He has an answer that you will hear at this Brunch.

This is not to be missed! I've known Don since he left the Witnesses and I am so glad he is one of us now. He is a most gifted person (he leads the Godless Revival band, which has the ironic name "Jehovah's Favorite Choir"), and his journey from Jehovah's Witnesses to Atheism is remarkable.
