Subject: DOES THE CURRENT LIBERALISM NEED SAVING FROM ITSELF? - How does the general failure of many Liberals to fairly criticize Islam affect the Atheist movement? -

Did you see the exchange between Ben Affleck, Nicholas Kristof, and Sam Harris on Bill Maher's recent show? It prompted this insightful response from Harris:

How can criticizing an ideology can get you branded as a "racist"? Is there a difference between criticizing ideas and criticizing people?

Come discuss this hot-button topic and then socialize with other Atheists and Freethinkers afterward in the bar...

LOCATION: Stone Creek -140 East 27th St. (3rd/Lex) - REAR ROOM

COST: Free, but participants are expected to purchase drink or food to compensate Stone Creek for their space.

The meeting was great! :). FYI, Richard Dawkins will be a guest for Neil deGrasse Star Talk Live show on 7:00pm 11/18/14 at Beacon Theater; Bill Maher's comedy show 7:00pm 11/08/14 at Beacon Theater.

I understood Ben Affleck's position, and I agree that most Muslims are good people. But I agree more with Sam Harris, that we need to start inspiring the real reformers in Islam to stand up to these radical fundamentalists and start a new movement for a more secular way of thinking for most Muslim people. It was done with Catholicism, so it can be done with Islam.

I agree. And the problem with Ben Affleck is that he doesn't listen, and he's actually smarter than that. He didn't do Bruce Wayne a great service in my opinion. Lol!

Ben Affleck is more than just a celebrity. The problem was that Ben went into the discussion with a preconceived notion of Bill Maher and Sam Harris's position, instead of actually listening to what they were saying.
