------------------------------------------

Imagine a world in which nobody can lie; everybody tells the awful truth. Little white lies, those that sugar-coat unpleasantness, are unknown.  Leave it to comedian Ricky Gervais, star, writer, producer and director of this film, to tell the world’s first lie.

What happens next changes the world. Somewhere along the line, Gervais’ character invents a “Man in the Sky” who controls everything and promises great rewards in “the good place” after you die, so long as you do no more than three “bad things.”    Hmmm.  Is Gervais implying that god and heaven are an invented lie?  Come to NYCA’s Friday evening and find out!  Share the audacity!

Our host this Friday is NYCA member Paul Herzich, a comedy specialist who once owned and managed his own comedy club in Manhattan. Paul’s favorite saying is, “Comedy is atheist because nothing--nothing!--is sacred in comedy.”  Dr. Dave Orenstein will be back next month in his favorite spot as host of the NYCA Film & Book Club.

Come and enjoy the film--which also stars Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe and Tina Fey--among your fellow Atheists, in a relaxed, informal atmosphere where your guffaws will be shared by like-minded people.
