This is our monthly membership/planning meeting. Come help us plan our participation in the community! We'll provide pizza, soda and dessert. We collect a voluntary contribution to help pay for the cost of dinner and fund CVA activities.
This month we're pleased to welcome as our guest speaker Dan Blinn. His presentation is entitled "A Conversation With a Humanist."
Although Dan Blinn realized early in life that he was an atheist, he still felt a strong desire to connect on a spiritual level to something greater than himself. Dan found that connection in Humanism, a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism or any belief in God, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
Dan has been an active participant and leader in Connecticut's Humanist and Secular Communities for many years. He is the founding ex-president of Hartford Area Humanists, and he was one of the founding co-chairs of the Connecticut Coalition of Reason. He moderates a monthly "salon" discussion group called The Humanist Dinner Club, where participants discuss philosophy, current events, ethics, and other topics.
Dan is a graduate of the Humanist Institute, a graduate-level program that trains leaders in the Humanist movement. He frequently speaks to groups regarding Humanism and the Secular Movement. He blogs about Humanism and related issues on his own blog, Ethikoros.
Dan is accredited as a Humanist Celebrant by the Humanist Society. This accreditation permits him to serve as a Wedding Officiant in the same legal capacity as any accredited clergyperson.
