Summer is almost here. The solstice marks the onset of summer, at the time of the longest day, in the northern hemisphere. Celebrate the new season with Atheists United at our BBQ party!

There’ll be great food cooking on the patio while we play card and board games with each other. The event will be very casual. Start a game yourself, join others, help out with the BBQ or just sit back and talk with other members.

Food
We will provide drinks, hamburgers, hotdogs and veggie burgers. We’ll BBQ on the patio while everyone plays games and gets to know one another. Guests are encouraged to bring potluck side dishes, your favorite chips, dessert or anything you think will enhance the meal for everyone. You can also bring your own special meat, if you’d like us to cook it for you.

We need 3 volunteers to BBQ the food and another 3 to help chop and prepare the food. If you’d like to help, please see Rodney or Norman when you come in.

Games
We’ll provide many games to play such as Jenga, Battleship, Scrabble, Chess, Checkers, UNO, etc. but, if you have a fun game you’d like to play with others, please bring it and let us know which game in the comments.

Kids
Chilren are welcome to join the party with their parents. We have many games available for kids to play with.

Cost
This meeting is free and open to the public. As a non-profit organiation, we rely on donations to keep it that way. The monthly meeting costs about $10/person to run. If you are able to, please contribute online or at the meeting.

Attendance
About[masked] people attend our meetings so you’re sure to have a good time and meet lots of new people.

We need your support
We are a not-for-profit organization. Your donations to Atheists United andmembership make these meetings possible.

Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building.

Note: Registration begins at 10:30am

I want to thank Kazuko for bringing the fruit salad. It was great!

Susie, life goes on whether an egg is fertile or not; whether the milk is produced in warm weather or cold. These are gifts given without hesitation, free from pain or discomfort from those who live, many times, dependent on us for sustenance. To refuse these gifts is arrogant. We owe a thank you to the animal world--not a refusal. I believe you and others disagree with this position. A counter-argument would be appreciated. I'd like to learn what is unethical about accepting these gifts.

interesting....i read your paragraphs about chicken and cow and I'm a meateterian...! it feels yucky to know all this, but I can't live without meat; beef, chicken, fish, I will jittery and weak. But it's beyond horrible what they put these animals through to feed the humans.....

    Very nice morning and afternoon.
Good people, good conversation, thinking people and that's always refreshing on a Sunday afternoon. I have ONE question if someone can help me. What is he URL for the YouTube of the young rap - hip-hop artist and what was his name. His popularity astounds me. It's great to know that some well known pop culture celebrities are out atheists. Thanks to all,
    Gary

Sounds absolutely wonderful, but for us ethical vegans, it's difficult to be at such gatherings (especially barbecues) and have nothing to eat, so I'm reluctantly turning down this invitation. I so hope the rest of you have a whole lot of fun!

Susie, animals should never suffer to be on our menu...but don't forget that the life-death cycle is inherent in our world...without death, there would be no life.

Did you mean venue - the physical place and layout at Center for Inquiry? Or did you mean the format and progam - games, presentation, eating schedule, etc.? I'm sure AU of LA would like to know for planning sake. - Gary

The name of the Oklahoma Tornado Survivor in last month's video is Rebecca Vitsmun. She did not ask for donations, but atheists raised $91,665 so far, as of 5/27/2013 5:13 AM, to help her rebuild. If you wish to donate to this fund, go to http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atheists-unite. The American Humanist Association donated an additional $10,000.
