WATERFEST is CRBI’s paddlesports and environmental education extravaganza featuring a 13-mile paddle/race on the Oostanaula River, canoe and kayak tug-o-wars and an environmental fair with exhibits, live animal demonstrations from Southeastern Reptile Rescue, an environmental scavenger hunt for kids and our Environmental Quiz Bowl for area elementary schools.
The event kicks off Friday, May 3, at 5 p.m. with kayak tug-o-wars in our Cedar Creek Park Tug-O-War Pool. Entry fee for the kayak tug-o-wars is $5 and includes a raffle ticket to win a new canoe from Blue Sky Outfitter. Register at this link : http://www.coosa.org/events/waterfest/waterfest-race-kayak-tug-o-war-registration to sign up for the kayak Tug O War. Please RSVP here on AAP to let other members know you are participating but you MUST register for the event and pay your entry fee via the CRBI link.
Note from Mike: Friday evening is the kayak tug-o-wars. This event is a LOT of fun but also the hardest paddling you will probably ever do. A great chance to show your mettle and also support CRBI. Please note that kayaks, paddles, and PFDs are provided for the kayak tug-o-wars, you do not use your own boat. paddle, etc (the great equalizer ;>)). If you are a camper and plan to do the race and join the festivities on Saturday I usually stay at Big Cedar Creek camp ground over in Cave Spring. James and Debbie are big supporters of both CRBI and the Georgia River Network and run a great operation. They also have a very well equipped store for canoes, kayaks and paddling accessories. The campground is situated right along the banks of Big Cedar Creek.
