HARUKI MURAKAMI - NEW SUB GROUP (AS PROMISED)

A number of you expressed interest in having a series of separate meetings dedicated to attempting to gain a better understand, appreciation and perspective of the works of Haruki Murakami.

Although I am anticipating discussions that are not limited to one single book, let's start our first meeting by looking at:

Learned a lot from readers of other books by HM and by others' interpretations.

Would not have missed this discussion for anything (almost). I have a new favorite author now. Move over Cormac.

I apologize for the late cancel. I'm recovering from a stomach bug, and I haven't finished the book. Two very compelling reasons to stay home today. Hope you have a wonderful discussion!

Most people loved the book and we began to make a little headway into achieving a slightly better understanding of this most unusual author.

  • Judy

Enjoyed the valuable insights into Kafka On the Shore.

The timing has been bad for this book/ meeting, so I can't make it tonight, but I am looking forward to the next one!

This was my first experience with Murakami, and I was riveted as he moves in and out of various realities. Make it rain ahi turna, please! Kafka lives!

Buzzfeed has a fun "Which Murakami character are you?" quiz: http://www.buzzfeed.com/kevintang/which-type-of-haruki-murakami-character-are-you?s=mobile

I made the rookie mistake of picking up an unabridged audio book. I'm 2/15 discs into the book (CDs! I know!) and loving it. Hopefully I'll work out more, aka have headphones on more often, and finish in time for a great discussion! Therapy can wait - the world would be boring if we were all sane & balanced.

That does sound incredibly long! Good luck with it and look forward to seeing you there.

Jean, I like your likes on a couple of my little remarks. If you ever feel like responding in a more detailed way, I would welcome your comments. Am at [masked]. ch

Charles is right on about the psychotherapy. I loaned "A Fine Balance" to my therapist. She told me, after finishing it, that she had to schedule a special session with HER therapist. I can't wait to introduce her to Murakami. It never occurred to me that my 14 years in therapy had anything to do with my taste in reading.

Looking forward to joining this new sub-group and learning more about the author.

This will be interesting, but for those of you who don't already have a psychotherapist, I recommend obtaining one soon. Murakami will have us all berserkers before this is over, but one can delay the progress. I think. But then, I can't remember how or when this started; there were animals like cows, and it was always winter . . . and then I was underground, hearing the sound of water close by.

They're only books, nothing to be afraid of. I used to say. c
