I went into Cafe Express this afternoon to make our reservations for 2014. Thus far, the management have done their best to be accommodating and we have generally been able to secure the small private room for most of our meetings at no cost to us.
Apparently they now have a new General Manager and have decided to charge for the use of their rooms going forward. The small room will cost $50 per night and the large room $100 per night. I explained that we only wanted the small room and though we might be willing to pay some sort of charge, I would need to run it past the membership first.
I was then told that, prior to the new rules coming into effect, somebody (called Dana I think) had already prebooked every Wednesday for 2014, I understand that this was at no charge and that Cafe Express feels obligated to stand by this arrangement.
Under the circumstances, it seems like we need to find a new venue. I will be looking out for one myself but would be grateful for any input or ideas any of you may have.
We need, if possible, a private room that seats 10-20 people in an establishment that offers decent, reasonably priced food and drinks. We would use the establishment the middle Tuesday or Wednesday of each month and also the last Wednesday. We need the room from 7pm until 9pm. Ideally, we would like to be not too far north or south and with easy access from the Mopac, 360 or 183.
Any and all suggestions will be most welcome and I will personally be happy to donate a bottle of GOOD champagne to anyone who can come up with a suggestion we can make work.
