Join us for a one night kid-centric camping trip at Palmetto State Park. This is a great opportunity to let your kids have all the outdoor fun their little hearts desire in a family friendly environment.
This trip will be geared toward fun times for younger children. Our target age group is 2-5 years old. Older kids are welcome as long as they play well with small children.
This is an unusual botanical area that resembles the tropics more than Central Texas. The ranges of eastern and western species merge, resulting in an astounding diversity of plant and animal life. Most notably, a stand of dwarf palmetto (Sabal minor) plants, from which the park gets its name, is found around the park's ephemeral swamp. These palmettos are found in East and Southeast Texas, as well as much of the southeastern United States, but only individuals or small clumps are found to the west and north of this park. Wildlife frequently seen in the park includes white-tailed deer, armadillos, squirrels, raccoons and numerous birds.
There are no scheduled activities. I plan on mostly staying around camp and the playground Saturday evening and hiking the nature trail Sunday morning. If anyone would like to plan age appropriate games or other activities, please feel free.
I will be arriving about 3pm Saturday. For anyone who arrives earlier, feel free to text me at 512-934-4389 and I'll give you our reservation numbers so you can get our site assignments at the gate.
FOOD PLANNING: I tend to keep it simple and will bring hot dogs & fixins' for Saturday night. Eggs, sausage, fruit, milk and OJ for Sunday morning. I'll have plenty to share, but maybe not enough to feed everyone. Be sure to bring your own food and drinks. Feel free to start a discussion (http://www.meetup.com/austin-happy-campers/messages/boards/thread/37398682/#107655832) if you would like to plan a group meal.
