The weather is right for getting back to nature with your happy little campers. Join us this weekend for a one night kid-centric camping trip at beautiful Colorado Bend State Park. This is a great opportunity to let your kids have all the outdoor fun their little hearts desire.
I will be arriving about 3pm Saturday, allowing plenty of daylight to setup camp and start a campfire. There are no scheduled activities. I plan on mostly staying around camp and the river Saturday evening and doing a short hike Sunday morning.
This trip will be geared toward fun times for younger children. Older kids are welcome as long as they get along well with small children.
Park Activities: Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, paddling, birding and wildlife viewing. The park has 26 miles of multi-use trails (hiking and mountain biking) and 4 miles of trail designated as hiking only. When river levels are normal (call for current conditions) paddlers can travel upstream as well as down to explore or access the park by river.
Gorman Falls Tours: Gorman Falls is 65 feet of cascading mineral laden waters that continue building up and advancing out from the bluff creating fantastic formations and breathtaking beauty. Hike from high above the Colorado River down the rocky bluffs into the river canyon. Stand at the base of the falls and discover why for centuries it has been called “The Land of Living Waters”. Sturdy footwear and drinking water required. Tour cancelled in inclement weather. Vehicle needed to travel into the Gorman Falls Area. Meet at Gorman Falls Trailhead, 1/2 mile from park entrance. No pets. $5 per person, $2 children 12 & under; park entrance fees apply. Reservations not required.
Note: I will be arriving around 3pm and will not be able to make the cave tour, but don't let this stop you.
FOOD PLANNING: I will bring hot dogs & s'mores for Saturday night and eggs & sausage for Sunday morning. I'll have some to share, but not enough to feed everyone. Be sure to bring your own food and drinks. Feel free to start a discussion if you would like to plan a bigger group meal.
CAMPSITE FEE: $2/person (all ages), payable to me upon arrival. Be sure to count your kids as part of your RSVP.
ENTRANCE FEE: $4/person (13 years and older) per day, payable at the park office upon arrival.
