Gaelic Football Pickup Game

This Meetup is past

Come experience modern Celtic culture by participating in traditional Irish Gaelic games!

Gaelic football is an easy-to-pick-up, fast paced, high scoring game played with a ball about the size of a volleyball on a pitch (field) about 130yds long, and is regulated by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland. Points may be scored over the upright by kicking or hand passing the ball over the uprights. Goals (worth 3 pts) may be scored by kicking or spiking the ball into a goal similar to a soccer net.

The pick up game will be hosted by Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Naomh Antaine, "San Antonio Gaelic Athletic Club," who competed in the 2012 North American GAA Gaelic Football Playoffs in August and won the Shield Championship.

There will be a short introductory session for those unfamiliar with the mechanics of the game before we start.

Just bring yourself and a little beer to share after the game. Cleats are optional, but recommended.

All are welcome. The point here is to have fun, meet some great folks, have a few beers, and learn how to play.
