What we're about

Welcome to ATX's first Hangeul-learning meet-up!! If you're curious about it, struggling with it, or even if you're already a master at it, this group is for you. We plan to host beginner-level study groups to introduce the Korean writing system.

Why should you join this group? Because the biggest boy band in the world is from the land where Hangeul was invented!! Hahaha!!

Actually, Hangeul (한글) is known for its scientific easy-to-learn phonetic system. Did you know Koreans used Chinese characters to read and write before their own writing system was invented in the mid-1440s? The inventor is non-other than King Sejong (세종 대왕). Even today, hundreds (even thousands?) of Korean words are based on those Chinese characters. However, if you learn Hangeul you'll be able to read them all in no time!!

Daily Korean conversation practice

During my 5+ year stay in South Korea I noticed a pattern of the same questions that Koreans LOVE to ask expats. So I decided to create this event to better prepare you for answering them. This group is for those who: • can already read and write Hangeul • want to start speaking basic Korean • want to learn sentence structure • just need more opportunities to speak If you said 'yes' to any of those, then this meet-up is just for you!! It's totally free, but I ask to please purchase a drink or food from the vast food market. The questions are below. Please prepare your answers before coming, but it's okay if you can't answer all of them. We'll all learn together. What is your name? How old are you? When is your birthday? Do you like spicy food? Where did you learn Korean? Are you married? What kind of music do you like? Where are you from? Where do you live? Can you speak Korean?
