Recently the Ops world has seen a proliferation of tools that automate and manage infrastructure. Ansible, Chef, Docker, Mesos, and more are now both competing and cooperating to manage infrastructure in companies everywhere.
Chef remains a stalwart of the operational landscape despite the competition. However, with its client-server infrastructure and rich DSL, it can be intimidating to adopt. This is particularly true for development environments. However, recent additions to the Chef landscape make this a lot easier than previous years.
My talk will be about using Chef, specifically Chef Zero, to quickly and easily setup a development environment without the complexities of building hosted infrastructure. Furthermore, I'll explain how this type of local setup can make the transition to a fully-hosted environment much easier.
