A great presentation from Chris Wegman! I am eager to be able to see the video recording to review it. Meanwhile, where can the slides be found?

This is a great moment to remind folks that everything we do to make this meetup happen is a volunteer activity. We are ALWAYS looking for new volunteers to help spread the load a little further. :)

I should also note that not all meetups have a slide deck to upload or a note-taker in the audience, but we try to get notes up for all that we can.

Chris, I forgot to ask your opinion of Eclipse? I use it since I'm from Java land. Wondering if PHPStorm would be a noticeable improvement or possibly slow me down due to being "different"?

Very informative. Solved several of the mysteries I'd been wondering about.

Thanks Chris for that great overview of dev tools. Just wanted to share that there is a "Dash for Windows" called Velocity: https://velocity.silverlakesoftware.com/ and it works great.

Will this talk include a discussion or guidance on configuration management (Git or Github) and code deployment? Is there a process map or checklist for how to set up the dev environment?

    October 11, 2014

    • Gabriel M.

We talked about GIT (and GitHub) as a place to store your code. We talked about deployhq.com which is a tool to get your code out of GIT and deploy it to your production server. But the main focus was tools for development.

iTheme Developer and WP Security expert, Chris Wiegman did his usual amazing job. He made the topic setting up your first time developers environment a do-able process, with easy to follow steps and some great free tools. The attendees has lots of questions and it was a great fast paced meeting thanks to you all for contributing to the Austin WordPress Community.

So VVV is a vagrant and not a way to act upon them? God that name is confusing.

To me was awesome because the way you talk sadly is to advance for me because I just start on this, if you know a place or a meet up where is for basics wordPress let me know otherwise we'll see you next time.

Daniel, we usually have a beginners meetup on the third Monday of the month. You might want to check that one out.

Since I'm not a developer, I almost decided not to attend. But because I work closely with a developer, I found the session informative and timely. I have a much clearer picture of what's happening behind the scenes and think I better understand some of my developers rationales (based on his preferences for software and tools) as we collaborate. Thanks very much!

Hey y'all. Keep in mind this is for first-time developers so I will be securing tools like DesktopServer and a few others. Topics such as GIT or specific configurations (like Multisite) are for another night.

    October 28, 2014

    • Gabriel M.

Chris, will we just setup DesktopServer or will we talk about how to move things from it to your live blog? Workflow I guess.

I've got a list of software to get your local environment running and will demo a couple of them including how I deploy sites

Is there anything I should have installed on my computer (that I might not already have) that would be helpful to have *before* the meeting starts? :)

    October 28, 2014

  • Larry B.

Hey Chris- Hopefully you'll touch on setting up a development environment for Multisite and how to update single sites from same multisite local to live server????? Also could we have a "heads up" on which local environment(s) you'll be discussing?

    Looking forward to this meeting.

so is this for people new to wordpress, or new to coding?

    October 18, 2014

    • Jackie D.

In the 4th Tuesday intermediate meetups, we assume attendees have a prior familiarity with WordPress, though beginners are always welcome to attend.
