Best Practices: WordPress Security and Disaster Recovery

Chris Wiegman, from St. Edward's University and Bit51.com will be leading a discussion on the best ways to protect WordPress and recover from disaster. Topics will include general security best practices, plugin and theme development, backups, and disaster recovery. Due to the nature of the topic and the vast differences in how it can be approached, instead of lecturing for an hour Chris will lead the discussion providing insights and experiences from his own efforts with the Better WP Security plugin. Please bring your security related questions, concerns and ideas and Chris, along with WP Austin, will help you improve on them.

It seemed to be a very good meetup. It just happened to be a little too advanced for me.

Wonderful presentation Chris! I learned a few things I didn't know or even knew to ask. Thank you and I look forward to the next time.

Some of it was over my head, but I still came away with actionable ideas, some of which I implemented while I was ther.

Chris Wiegman gave a great presentation to a rapt audience. Lots of do tomorrow tips, good common strategies. A summery will appear on www.wpaustin.com.

Chris did an excellent job of answering as he went along, yet still keeping on track of the planned agenda. My only disappointment is that we didn't have enough time to go into how to write secure plugins and theme. Hopefully, we can convince him to do that at some later date.

This meetup was excellent. Chris has total mastery of the subject matter and scared the livin' daylights out of me into taking security more seriously. He had great tips and passed on his own checklist that he has created with the caveat -- "it is not a one size fits all plugin", but definitely a place to start. Great presentation by Chris Wiegman. I got my eyes opened – not always a good feeling, but much better than trying to recover from a possible disaster that I didn't see coming! I also appreciated the opportunities we all had to ask questions and learn from others as well.

Chris Wiegman was excellent! He gave the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! His presentation on WP security was well-organized, covering global and local issues and real-world solutions. During his presentation, Chris graciously answered questions without skipping a beat. Once again, I'm really glad I came. Thank you, Nick & Sandi Batik for hosting another great speaker.

Chris Wiegman http://www.chriswiegman.com did an amazing job. I went home and hid under my desk for an hour shaking, then I started changing my security strategy. If you aren't coming to these meets ups you are missing out. I heard they are adding more meetings and a bigger space!
