    ---- Experience the healing power of tarantella rhythms and dance with internationally renowned singer, percussionist, and teacher, Alessandra Belloni, Artist in Residence at the Cathedral. Rhythm is the Cure is an intensive healing workshop featuring centuries old Southern Italian ritual dances used as music and dance therapy. Participants will learn the unique style of tambourine playing and the ancient healing trance dance of the Tarantella, used to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula. The workshop focuses on releasing blockages of energies, breaking the imaginary "spider web" of the subconscious mind.
    This workshop will give people the means to fortify themselves against daily stresses. Students will become empowered through discovery of the ancient art of frame drumming and a technique of music and dance therapy that will enable them to discover the means to achieve homeostatic balance and inner relief of stress, while restoring spiritual and physical energy.
    Participants are encouraged to wear white and red colors and skirts. Please bring a tamburello to the class. Otherwise, please purchase a tamburello at:
    Award winner percussionist, singer, dancer, actress – Alessandra Belloni is renowned in her field and travels worldwide to perform group and solo concerts in theaters, universities, and international percussion festivals.
    Belloni began her career in her native Rome with the great actress Anna Magnani in "La Lupa," and with legendary film director Federico Fellini in "Casanova." She is Artistic Director/Leading Performer of I Giullari di Piazza, Italian Folk music theatre and dance company Artist in Residence at the Cathedral of St John the Divine, with whom she is performing tonight. musicians/vocalists/dancers that specializes in authentic Southern Italian music and theatre, dating back to the 13th century. The company has performed in major theatres as Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Red Cat Disney Hall.
    They recorded 6 CDS, some chosen as best CDs of the year by New York & Los Angeles Times in world music. Alessandra Belloni and her company have developed a new world music sound blending south Italian gypsy melodies and trance rhythms. She has devoted her life to the healing traditions of the trance rituals of the tarantella and drumming in Honor of the Black Madonna that originated in Africa.
    Known as the "Mediterranean Volcano" she is the only artist in the world who specializes in Southern Italian tambourines combined with singing and dance, Belloni is a REMO artist and designer of her signature series of Italian tambourines; she is also the author of the book & DVD "Rhythm is the Cure," published by Mel Bay.
